We found a solution to the threat of redundancy

We got engaged in April 2008 and planned to have a big wedding, but when the recession hit, Dave’s hours were cut drastically along with our income. The situation became even worse when, in the December, he was made redundant from his job in the building trade. Suddenly, it wasn’t about money for the wedding, but having to cope with mounting bills and mortgage payments too.

It’s a frightening enough scenario for anyone who is faced with redundancy, but alongside a worsening economic climate and our wedding plans, Dave needed to find an alternative income and fast.

Kleeneze provided us with complete stability over that time and we quickly built up our business, so it was big enough to cover Dave’s previous wage as well as the wedding bills. Having our own Kleeneze business has also given us the security we need to be able to start a family without worrying that the income could suddenly stop.

Flexible working hours means more family time

Apparently there are 179,000 single fathers in the UK, many of whom have had to give up their ‘normal’ job in order to support their children – a change which can often lead to financial hardship. Luckily, my Kleeneze business meant that I didn’t have to make a choice between being with my three children and earning a good living.

When I first heard about the Kleeneze opportunity through a friend I could not help but feel smug that my education meant that I would never have to stoop so low. Before Kleeneze, I used my Mining Engineering degree to get a high-flying IT job, which saw me quickly progress into management and take up various positions around the world. It was while I was living in Bermuda that I found out what being time poor really meant – I went to work in the dark and came home in the dark, barely spending anytime with my family.

When I was offered redundancy, I asked my friend to tell me about the Kleeneze opportunity again. Amazingly, after four and half years he was earning £4,500 per month – it had taken me five years of further education and sixteen years in the corporate world to get to that figure!
